How we handle information

Source policy

Every record is a public-source summary, handled with care and linked back to its origin where available.

Public-source summaries

CrimeInToronto summarizes public-source information — police releases, news releases, court records, and public advisories. Original sources should be linked when available.

Careful legal language

Allegations are not findings of guilt. Matters before the court are not proven unless stated by a court or official source. We use language like 'reported', 'alleged', and 'under investigation'.

Sensitivity & privacy

Sensitive information is handled carefully. We generalize locations, withhold names, and do not emphasize youth or minor identifying details. We do not publish exact private residential addresses.

Public-service vertical

Missing persons policy

Missing persons records are presented as a respectful public-service feature — never monetized, never sensationalized. We generalize last-seen areas where required and do not emphasize youth or vulnerable-person identifying details. To help with a real case, contact Toronto Police or Crime Stoppers. In an emergency, call 911.

Tip guidance

CrimeInToronto does not collect emergency tips. Reports and tips should go to Toronto Police or Crime Stoppers, not to this site. In an emergency, call 911.

Classification policy

Signals are classified only by incident type, location, date/time, status, police division, source type, and public-safety category. We do not create categories based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or immigration status.

The vision

Toronto is the first city node.

CrimeInToronto is designed to scale beyond a single city — a public-source crime intelligence layer that could grow from Toronto to Ontario to Canada, and a future paid platform of search, alerts, reports, and API tools for people who rely on public-safety data professionally.
